Da Costa wins for Amlin Aguri!

The view for photographers...

our Expertise

The circuit is very bumpy and dusty. The surface varies a great deal, too, with a mix of asphalt, concrete patches and painted road markings. It's interesting, though, because the track is wide and provides numerous overtaking opportunities. It will be hot for the race, with a surface temperature probably in excess of 50°C.

  • 10.01.15 - 17h15
With the champagne corks popping on the podium, that's a wrap from Buenos Aires. Next stop Miami on March 14!
  • 10.01.15 - 17h14
In the teams' battle, e.DAMS have extended their advantage over Virgin Racing to 11 points.
  • 10.01.15 - 17h13
With di Grassi and Buemi both failing to finish, and Bird coming home only seventh, the Brazilian now holds a ten-point lead over the Englishman in the title table. Buemi is third ahead of team-mate Prost, Piquet Jr and new winner da Costa. Just 21 points separate the top five.
  • 10.01.15 - 17h10
Piquet Jr: "Honestly, this is the biggest surprise ever! There was a lot of confusion under the safety car and I think we had a bit of a communication failure. When I finished the race, I had no idea I was even on the lead lap - I let the others fight because I thought I was a lap behind!"
  • 10.01.15 - 17h07
Prost: "That was a hard race - really tough! There was a lot of fighting, and you have to try to stay out of trouble whilst at the same time still being aggressive. Thankfully, for once, it seemed things went my way and we scored some good points. Now let's go to Miami!"
  • 10.01.15 - 17h05
Da Costa: "I'm really happy. Things got a bit confusing under the safety car, but I kept my cool and in the closing stages, I still had some energy left to attack Nick if I needed to. We've worked hard to get here, and it's been a great job from all the team."
  • 10.01.15 - 16h57
Bird, Durán, the luckless Heidfeld and Oriol Servià complete the top ten as only 14 cars saw the chequered flag.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h55
Chaotic scenes behind in the scrap for second. Prost secures it from Piquet, Alguersuari - carrying late damage - a flying Senna and Vergne.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h54
Da Costa wins for Amlin Aguri!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h53
Abt has hit Alguersuari in the battle over fourth.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h52
Another sting in the tail in Argentina as Heidfeld receives a pit-lane speeding penalty!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h51
Vergne has muscled his way past Alguersuari for third, with Prost, Abt and Piquet all similarly getting a piece of the fast-paced action. It’s pretty frenetic out there!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h50
With four laps left to run, Heidfeld has extended his advantage to four seconds.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h49
Vergne is all over the back of Alguersuari in the tussle over third, with Prost holding a watching brief in fifth.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h48
The Brazilian doesn’t hold onto it for long, though, as a fired-up Bird steals it away.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h47
New fastest lap for seventh-placed Piquet Jr, who is progressing his way up through the field.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h46
Heidfeld now moves into the lead, 2.5 seconds ahead of da Costa. Alguersuari runs third.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h45
More drama in Buenos Aires! Di Grassi's suspension has also collapsed, pitching him into the wall much like Chandhok. The championship leader is out!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h43
Bird has been handed down a drive-through penalty for ignoring pit exit lights.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h42
Further back, Bird has passed da Costa for third, with Vergne similarly finding a way by Prost to reclaim sixth.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h41
Di Grassi leads the race - a South American in front in South America. The crowd goes wild!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h40
Buemi has broken his wheel, ostensibly after contact with the wall - the leader is out of the race.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h39
The top five are running nose-to-tail.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h38
Third-placed Heidfeld could yet be the danger man - he still has a FanBoost remaining.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h37
We're racing again in Buenos Aires! The order is Buemi from di Grassi, Heidfeld, da Costa, Bird, Alguersuari, Nicolas Prost and Vergne. 13 laps to go!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h35
A number of drivers are being instructed to pass the safety car to restore the correct order before the re-start.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h29
Bird is under investigation for allegedly leaving the pit-lane under a red light.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h28
Nelson Piquet Jr and Senna look to be the biggest losers from the timing of the safety car - they are being held at the end of the pit-lane.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h27
Safety car is out for the Chandhok incident. Drivers are diving for the pits up-and-down the field.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h26
Alguersuari is the first of the front-runners to pit.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h25
Heidfeld has regained fourth place from Bird.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h24
Chandhok is in the wall and out of the race following what looks like suspension failure.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h23
A mistake from Heidfeld at the chicane has seen the German drop to fifth behind Di Grassi, Alguersuari and Bird.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h21
Race leader Buemi has been judiciously managing his power - he has the most left available of anybody inside the top eight.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h19
Daniel Abt and Karun Chandhok are wheel-to-wheel in the battle over P10 and the final points-paying position.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h17
Eleven laps in, and the five leaders are running line-astern. Absolutely nothing in it - this is anybody's race!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h16
New fastest lap for Di Grassi - he has reduced the gap to second-placed Heidfeld from two seconds to practically nothing!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h14
Further back, António Félix da Costa has similarly made a move on Vergne for sixth.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h13
Di Grassi passes Alguersuari for third under braking at the Turn Five hairpin. Can he close in on Buemi and Heidfeld ahead?
  • 10.01.15 - 16h12
Alguersuari runs third ahead of di Grassi, Bird and Uruguay star Jean-Eric Vergne. Further back, Salvador Durán has passed Marco Andretti for 14th, with Senna opportunistically nipping through into 15th right behind.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h10
Heidfeld deployed his 30bhp FanBoost at the end of lap two and closed right onto the back of leader Buemi but couldn't quite squeeze past. The chase is on!
  • 10.01.15 - 16h09
Championship leader Lucas di Grassi has passed Bird for P4 at Turn Seven.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h08
Buemi is 0.8s clear of Heidfeld at the end of the opening lap, whilst further back, Michela Cerruti is in the pits, possibly following contact with Senna.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h05
Lights-out! Pole-sitter Buemi leads, as Heidfeld goes all the way around the outside of Alguersuari to pinch second place into the Turn One left-hand hairpin.
  • 10.01.15 - 16h03
Jérôme d'Ambrosio looks to be missing from the grid.
  • 10.01.15 - 15h56
What effect will the rising temperatures have on the race result in Argentina?
  • 10.01.15 - 15h51
The FanBoost result is in, and in Buenos Aires, Bruno Senna, Nick Heidfeld and Jean-Eric Vergne are the beneficiaries.
  • 10.01.15 - 15h26
There will be a minute's silence before the start of the race in memory of the week's victims in Paris.
  • 10.01.15 - 15h19
Not forgetting Putrajaya winner Sam Bird, of course. The Virgin Racing driver turned 28 yesterday and will doubtless be looking for a podium as a present.
  • 10.01.15 - 15h13
Former F1 team-mates Sébastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari look tremendously evenly-matched after qualifying, whilst fellow ex-GP stars Bruno Senna and Jarno Trulli will be looking to scythe their way through from the back row of the grid.
  • 10.01.15 - 15h10
Race time is fast approaching in Buenos Aires, and the excitement is building...
  • 10.01.15 - 13h03
Several drivers are under investigation after the session: D'Ambrosio, Senna, Vergne, Andretti and Prost...
  • 10.01.15 - 13h01
There's nobody left running, so Buemi is today's qualifying victor, ahead of Alguersuari, Heidfeld and Bird
  • 10.01.15 - 13h00
Vergne fails to improve on his last lap when he overshoots a turn.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h59
Senna is on a fast one, too, but a mistake in the last sector ruins his chances
  • 10.01.15 - 12h58
Vergne seems faster and he effectively jumps to sixth overall, just short of Di Grassi.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h56
Nope, the group's four survivors are all on the track...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h55
It looks like we will only have three cars on-track for the last part of the session. Green flags...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h53
Session to resume at 12:56 but Vergne has parked his car in his garage.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h52
It's the second qualifying crash for Trulli who also failed to record a time in China.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h50
Trulli smashes the rear of his car into a wall to bring out the red flag with 6m56s still on the clock. Shame, his first sector time was the best of the bunch.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h47
All the Sector 1 times of this group's first flying laps seem lower than needed to worry the front-runners and that is confirmed by their times which see them appear at the bottom end of the order
  • 10.01.15 - 12h44
Green light for the final group of five drivers (Trulli, Vergne, Andretti, D'Ambrosio, Senna)...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h43
One qualifying group still to come, and it includes Jean-Eric Vergne, pole winner in Punta del Este last month
  • 10.01.15 - 12h42
The answer is no. All five are back in the pits.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h41
Will any of these five drivers attempt a third flying lap?
  • 10.01.15 - 12h40
Heidfeld has leapt to third with a 1m9.367s while Chandhok and Sarrazin both improven but only very slightly
  • 10.01.15 - 12h38
Correction: Chandhok is ninth after first round of flying laps
  • 10.01.15 - 12h36
The third group's fastest drivers are Heidfeld (8th) and Abt (9th). Chandhok and Sarrazin are slightly slower
  • 10.01.15 - 12h34
Sarrazin will have his Free Practice 2 smash at the back of his mind...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h32
The third group will start four minutes late...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h32
The third mini-session has started (Chandhok, Heidfeld, Sarrazin, Abt and Duran).
  • 10.01.15 - 12h30
That's all for Group 2. Buemi is still sitting on provisional pole, tailed by Alguersuari (+0.027s) and Bird (+0.254s). Di Grassi is fourth despite his crash.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h27
Prost has a clear track ahead of him in his attempt to make up for his earlier times. The French e.dams driver improves but only climbs to fifth with a 1m9.636s
  • 10.01.15 - 12h26
We're green again in Buenos Aires where the track temperature stands at more than 40°C
  • 10.01.15 - 12h24
Di Grassi probably wont rejoin in his spare car because he has to walk back to the pits... His first flying lap bagged the fourth best time so far
  • 10.01.15 - 12h23
Session to re-start at 12:25. Each driver should have time for one more flying lap... The provisional top three is: 1) Bueli, 2) Alguersuari, 3) Bird
  • 10.01.15 - 12h21
While Alguersuari (2nd) is just 0.027s off Buemi, Prost (7th) isn't looking good, but the red flag comes out when Di Grassi crashes on his second flying lap. There are 3m14s remaining on the clock. Da Costa to report to Race Control after session
  • 10.01.15 - 12h19
Best Sector 1 time of qualifying for Alguersuari who leaps to second place on the provisional grid (1m9.161s).
  • 10.01.15 - 12h18
Alguersuari and Servia are provisionally sixth and seventh on the grid, while Prost seems to be going for an offset strategy...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h15
The second group drivers are on the track for the start of their 10-minute mini-session...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h15
The fastest driver out of the blocks is Di Grassi who records a lap of 1m9.521s. That is 0.387s short of Buemi, however, and puts the Brazilian in third place.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h14
It has to be said that that was spectacular stuff from Buemi!
  • 10.01.15 - 12h11
The second qualifying group features the championship leader (Di Grassi) and Nicolas Prost who has claimed two of the three pole positions up for grabs since the start of the new all-electric championship...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h09
That's all for Group 1, folks. The man to beat is Sébastien Buemi (e.dams), just as he has been all morning.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h08
The session's two fastest drivers (Buemi and Bird) are equal second in the provisional championship standings...
  • 10.01.15 - 12h08
Piquet improves but fails to pass Da Costa and Bird. The Brazilian will probably have to settle for fourth in the group.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h07
Buemi pits as Bird goes second with a 1m9.388s
  • 10.01.15 - 12h06
Da Costa improves to stay second with a 1m9.658s.
  • 10.01.15 - 12h05
Buemi's second lap is even faster: 1m9.134s. That's still slower than the best free practice time
