Highlights from Berlin

Race

Di Grassi (Audi Sport Abt), Buemi (e.Dams-Renault), D'Ambrosio (Dragon Racing) : the picture of the DHL Berlin ePrix.

our Expertise

The track surface here is very different to anything else we have seen. There is a great deal of pick-up and the concrete is extremely abrasive. It is the hardest-wearing circuit of the championship for the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyre - a cheese grater!

Live news
  • 23.05.15 - 21h13
Lucas di Grassi, winner of today's DHL Berlin ePrix, has been excluded from the results due to a modified front wing. The championship is consequently led by fellow Brazilian Nelson Piquet Jr.
  • 23.05.15 - 17h21
Di Grassi's victory sees the Brazilian extend his championship lead from four points to 17 over compatriot Piquet, with Buemi a further three in arrears and Prost now more than 40 adrift of the top of the table.
  • 23.05.15 - 17h19
Buemi: "We simply weren't fast enough today. I don't know why; maybe it's because this track is quite different to all the others. On days like this, it's important to take the points, and when we are quick enough to win, we need to win. We didn't have the speed this weekend and we need to work harder before the next one, but Lucas drove a great race – he was fast and deserved to win."
  • 23.05.15 - 17h18
D'Ambrosio: "It feels awesome! We've worked so hard for this. The guys have done a fantastic job. We've had the pace all season, to be fair and could have had podiums before now, but we've finally put it all together and this is the result. The team gave me an exceptional pit-stop, and the car was great all weekend. It's also a fun track with lots of overtaking opportunities. Now we need to maintain this momentum to make sure we have a strong end to the championship."
  • 23.05.15 - 17h08
Di Grassi: "It was a great race, and I'm very proud to have won on home turf for Audi Sport Team Abt. What happened at the end was unbelievable; I crossed the line, and then just 100 metres later the electrics all shut down. That could have happened at any time during the race, so I think somebody must have been looking down on us..."
  • 23.05.15 - 16h56
Di Grassi is being towed back to the pit-lane by a tow truck - a somewhat ignominious end to a magnificent performance.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h54
A great exercise in damage limitation from Piquet Jr to finish fifth from 13th on the grid, setting fastest lap on the final tour for good measure and some crucial extra points.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h53
D’Ambrosio, Buemi, Duval, Piquet Jr, Heidfeld, Sarrazin, Vergne, Bird and Liuzzi complete the top ten - as the race-winner stops on-track shortly after the flag!
  • 23.05.15 - 16h52
Chequered flag and it's victory for championship leader Lucas Di Grassi!
  • 23.05.15 - 16h51
    Onto the last lap...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h49
Drive-through penalty for Bruno Senna for speeding in the pit-lane. It's been a rough weekend for the Mahindra boys in Berlin.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h47
Can the flying Duval and Piquet do anything about third-placed Buemi in the remaining few laps?
  • 23.05.15 - 16h46
The Frenchman is through with a great move, and Piquet opportunistically follows through a few corners later.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h45
Duval is trying every which way to force a way past Heidfeld, with Piquet now closing in.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h44
Piquet slices past Sarrazin using his fan boost for P6. Next target - Duval.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h42
Piquet is closing in on the battle over fourth, with substantially more energy remaining than the men ahead of him...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h41
D'Ambrosio is gradually chipping away at Di Grassi's lead, but it's still almost 10 seconds.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h40
Duval is now really taking the fight to Heidfeld for P4.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h37
Duval and Sarrazin are also homing in on the third-placed tussle.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h36
Heidfeld dives past Buemi for third, but the Swiss ace fights back and the order is re-established. Wheel-to-wheel action for the final podium position!
  • 23.05.15 - 16h35
Fastest lap for Piquet Jr this time, as da Costa ahead of him in seventh and Salvador Duran have both picked up drive-through penalties for exceeding the minimum pit-stop time.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h34
Both men, meanwhile, are closing in on third-placed Buemi.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h33
Fastest lap for fifth-placed Loic Duval. The Frenchman is having a strong run and is applying the pressure to Heidfeld ahead.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h32
Bird and Vergne trade blows in the scrap over ninth. The Frenchman is currently holding firm...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h31
Piquet has done a great job of managing his energy and has eked out an extra lap before pitting, as did Pic. The Brazilian rejoins in P8.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h30
D'Ambrosio has pipped Buemi out of the pits into a net second place.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h29
Di Grassi is now also in, as Piquet has lost places to Jean-Eric Vergne, Antonio Felix da Costa and Bird.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h28
Sarrazin and Trulli are the first to pit to change cars on lap 17 - just after half-distance.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h27
Scott Speed forces his way past Salvador Duran for P15.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h25
No real progress for Bird meanwhile - the Briton remains back in the pack down in 11th position.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h23
D'Ambrosio is all over the back of Buemi now in the duel over second...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h21
Meanwhile, higher up the order, D'Ambrosio has displaced Heidfeld from third with a late move, and now has his sights set on second-placed Buemi.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h20
Sarrazin has demoted Piquet to eighth into Turn Eight.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h18
As Di Grassi checks out, Buemi, Heidfeld and D'Ambrosio are waging an exciting battle over second.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h17
Piquet Jr has risen to seventh after ten laps, though his two chief title rivals are first and second...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h16
Prost is similarly struggling. The title protagonist is down to 13th position.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h15
Trulli is now falling like a stone towards the bottom of the top ten, as Di Grassi leads by 10.8 seconds.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h14
Liuzzi is now also past his team-mate into fifth.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h13
Heidfeld and Liuzzi opportunistically follow through to demote the pole-sitter to fifth in barely the blink of an eye.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h12
Buemi uses his FanBoost to scythe past pole-sitter Trulli into second place.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h11
Di Grassi is pulling away at the rate of more than a second per lap - his margin is almost eight seconds after only six laps...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h10
Curiously, they are all beginning to stack up behind third-placed Buemi, who doesn’t seem to have the pace right now.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h09
Di Grassi is streaking away at the front of the field, whilst Nicolas Prost is conversely going backwards, conceding places to Jerome D’Ambrosio and Vitantonio Liuzzi in swift succession.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h08
Title contender Piquet is already on the move, and after a great start, has passed Stephane Sarrazin for P9 on lap two.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h07
Di Grassi leads by two seconds at the end of the opening lap, from Trulli and Buemi, who is under pressure from home hero Nick Heidfeld.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h06
Meanwhile, Daniel Abt has gone for an opening lap spin further back in the pack...
  • 23.05.15 - 16h05
But the top of the order has changed already as Lucas Di Grassi moves past Trulli to steal the advantage.
  • 23.05.15 - 16h04
LIGHTS-OUT! Trulli converts pole into the lead...
  • 23.05.15 - 15h51
The FanBoost votes are in, and the recipients this weekend are Sebastien Buemi (3rd), Nelson Piquet Jr (13th) and Charles Pic (17th).
  • 23.05.15 - 15h49
Meanwhile, with just 15 minutes to race start, the threat of rain remains...
  • 23.05.15 - 15h45
For the first time this season, tyre management looks set to play a part in today’s race. Preservation could be key...
  • 23.05.15 - 15h18
There are also some very quick drivers well down the grid - particularly Nelson Piquet Jr in 13th and Sam Bird in 15th. They'll be looking to fight their way through the field to keep their title hopes alive.
  • 23.05.15 - 15h16
Given how close it was in qualifying - with just half-a-second blanketing the top 11 and a second the top 17 - it promises to be a hard-fought race in Berlin today.
  • 23.05.15 - 15h08
Just under an hour to go now until lights-out! Can Jarno Trulli maintain his surprise form, or will the usual suspects rise to the top..?
  • 23.05.15 - 12h59
We'll see you back here for the Berlin ePrix at just after 4pm. The weather is clearing up nicely so it could be another sunny race...
  • 23.05.15 - 12h57
That's qualifying for the Berlin ePrix completed. Trulli has claimed his first pole position of the championship, chased by the championship leader Di Grassi (+0.076s). Behind ar Buemi, heidfeld, Abt and Ambrosio, etc.
  • 23.05.15 - 12h54
Abt has improved to fifth spot for his home race thanks to a lap of 1m21.754s
  • 23.05.15 - 12h53
    Spin for Bird (15th)

  • 23.05.15 - 12h45
    Green for Q4...
  • 23.05.15 - 12h41
The five Q4 drivers will be Chandhok, Buemi, Bird, Abt and Duval in their bid to clinch pole position in Berlin...
  • 23.05.15 - 12h40
We've got four Group 3 drivers in the top five overall at the moment. Pic is back in 13th place, though...
  • 23.05.15 - 12h39
Ambrosio (1m21.861s) and Prost (1m21.911s) do improve, however, to go fourth and fifth.

Di Grassi is on another fast lap... A time of 1m21.689s doesn't mark in improvement

  • 23.05.15 - 12h27
Group 3 next: Pic, Di Grassi, Prost, Ambrosio and Heidfeld
  • 23.05.15 - 12h26
That's all for Group 2. The provisonal grid order is now Trulli, Sarrazin, Vergne, Liuzzi and Speed. Sarrazin might have gone faster if he hadn't come across Alguersuari on the racing line during his final flying lap.

That's it for Group 1. The provisonal order is Trulli, Liuzzi, Piquet, Senna dn Da Costa
