ABOUT THE city

Long Beach is an iconic track. It is the most famous street circuit in North America and is a little bit of a tradition in American motorsport. It says a lot for Formula E that it is racing at such a venue.

Gil de Ferran (Formula E ambassador)

ABOUT THE race

We’ll be spending money on developing drivetrains and charging systems. We’ve got some exceptionally talented partners that we’ve been working together with for over a year. Paired with our excellent drivers from this year: if we give them the best technology next year, it will be a great way forward.

Alex Tai (Team Principal, Virgin Racing)

Thanks to K1 Speed, the eVillage features a track for electric karts. Founded in 2003, K1 Speed has indoor tracks for electric karts across America. The Long Beach ePrix marks the inauguration of the Californian company’s outdoor karting facilities.

Live news
  • 04.04.15 - 17h14
Di Grassi (3rd): "It's great to be back on top in the championship again after encountering bad luck in the last two races, which cost us a lot of points. It was a very tough race today with a lot of enjoyable battles, but the team did a fantastic job and now we head into the European rounds completely revitalised. Monaco next is effectively my 'home' race and it's a place I love. The track there will be amazing. The championship is going to be a massive fight right to the end; it will be decided in the details - and in the very last race."
  • 04.04.15 - 17h09
Vergne (2nd): "I don't know if I'm happier about second place or simply finishing the race! It's a long time since I've been on the podium... After the crash this morning, this is the perfect way to repay all the Andretti guys, who did a brilliant job to fix the car because it was quite badly damaged. Piquet was just a little bit too quick to catch today, but we did a good job to bring the car home in P2 and now we can go for our first win on home turf in Monaco next time out. I can't wait"
  • 04.04.15 - 17h05
Piquet Jr (1st): "It's hard to believe. Our start was amazing, the car was great and everything just worked out perfectly. I felt really comfortable out there and always felt like I had everything under control, and after missing out in Miami, it's great to win here."
  • 04.04.15 - 17h01
Di Grassi regains the championship lead, just a single point ahead of new winner Piquet with, Prost third, Buemi fourth and Bird dropping to fifth.
  • 04.04.15 - 16h52
The top ten is rounded out by Da Costa, Jaime Alguersuari, Duval - from a long way down the grid - and Sarrazin.

Team-mates go wheel-to-wheel as Buemi dives past Prost for P5. Da Costa takes advantage to steal through into sixth at the hairpin.
  • 04.04.15 - 16h20
We're green again and everybody appears to be well-behaved this time...

Charles Pic has harpooned the luckless Jarno Trulli at the hairpin. The Italian is out of the race.

Which Formula E protagonist will add their name to that illustrious list today? We'll know in little more than an hour...
  • 04.04.15 - 15h17
Is pole position a poisoned chalice, though? The pole-sitter has yet to win in Formula E...
  • 04.04.15 - 15h16
This promotes Daniel Abt to the top spot on the starting grid. The German becomes the first non-French speaking native to start a Formula E race from pole.

BREAKING NEWS: Sébastien Buemi has been demoted from pole position to P10 for exceeding his power usage during qualifying.
  • 04.04.15 - 15h12
An incredibly close qualifying session in California promises a fiercely-competitive race. Don't go anywhere!
  • 04.04.15 - 15h02
So we've had five different winners from five races so far in Formula E - what chance a sixth here in Long Beach today..?
  • 04.04.15 - 13h00
That's it. Qualifying for the Long Beach ePrix is over and Sébastien Buemi has earned pole position in the dying moments. The e.dams driver will share the front row later ths afternoon with Daniel Abt. Miami ePrix winner Prost was third. The top 12 drivers were covered by less than half-a-second!
  • 04.04.15 - 12h59
But Abt strings a fast lap together to dislodge Prost from pole position, then Buemi posts a 56.853s to pass the German. Dramatic stuff here in California!
  • 04.04.15 - 12h58
The first sector times aren't fantastic...
  • 04.04.15 - 12h57
D'Ambrosio, Buemi, Abt and Chandhok will need to time their quick laps carefully if they want tp progress up the order
  • 04.04.15 - 12h56
We've got action at Long Beach again...
  • 04.04.15 - 12h52
There's a red flag. Liuzzi has hit a wall. The clock has been stopped with 4m44s remaining.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h50
This time, Buemi gets into the 57-second bracket, but he's only 9th. He's marginally beaten, in fact, by D'Ambrosio. These two drivers are on another 'slow' lap.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h48
Buemi is holding back for another lap
  • 04.04.15 - 12h47
Again, the session's first flying laps are quite slow
  • 04.04.15 - 12h45
One of Prost's biggest threats in the battle for pole is undoubtedly his e.dams team-mate Buemi. The Swiss driver is in the fourth and last qualifying group, along with Chandhok, Abt, D'Ambrosio and Liuzzi.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h45
Unsurprisingly, Buemi is the first Q4 driver to appear.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h40
Can Prost be toppled in Q3's dying moments? No. The provisional pole-sitter has survived, but only just!
  • 04.04.15 - 12h38
Piquet goes even closer to Prost. A 56.974s leaves him just 3/100ths behind the Frenchman.

Now Di Grassi posts a good string of sector times to go second overall, 0.139/1000ths shrt of Prost's benchmark
  • 04.04.15 - 12h35
Da Costa goes fourth overall with a 57.182s
  • 04.04.15 - 12h34
Their speed picks up slightly for the second timed laps but they are still some way off the sharp end of the leaderboard
  • 04.04.15 - 12h33
Once again, it looks like these five drivers need one flying lap to get their eye in... Only Da Costa squeezes beneath the minute marK
  • 04.04.15 - 12h30
First out the pit lane for Q3 are Di Grassi and Piquet, the two Brazilians who topped the three free practice sessions earlier today
  • 04.04.15 - 12h28
Group 3 ready for action: Da Costa, Duran, Di Grassi, Piquet and Sarrazin.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h26
That's all for Group 2. The top five is led by Prost (56.944s), chased by Vergne (+0.162s), Speed (+0.212s), Bird (+0.360s) and Senna (+0.403s). Duval (57.905s) brings up the rear with the half the session completed.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h23
Indeed, Prost has gone into the overall lead with the day's fastest effort so far: 56.944, the first lap under 57 seconds!
  • 04.04.15 - 12h22
There's still time for some changes. Bird and Prost are on fast laps.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h20
Prost goes fourth overall with his second flying lap (57.438s)
  • 04.04.15 - 12h19
Bird's on a flyer next time round, though, and a 57.413s puts him third overall, while Prost is on a slow lap.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h18
There are times in the bank for this quintet, but they are not a threat yet to the Group 1 runners.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h15
Here we go for another 10 minutes. Again, Prost is eager to get started and is the group's first diver to leave the pit lane
  • 04.04.15 - 12h12
It's the turn of Group 2 next: Bird, Duval, Treulli, Senna and Prost
  • 04.04.15 - 12h11
Chequered flag. That was fast and furious as Vergne and Speed - split by just 5/100ths of a second - set the bar pretty high.
  • 04.04.15 - 12h09
Speed and Vergne are battling for supremacy. They both improve, but the Frenchman's 57.106s keeps him on top...
  • 04.04.15 - 12h08
Alguersuari and Pic have pitted... with two minutes to go...
  • 04.04.15 - 12h05
Alguersuari's pace is more like it: 57.596s which promotes him to the top of the time sheet, ahead of Heidfeld and Pic after everybody's second flying lap...
  • 04.04.15 - 12h05
Vergne posts a 57.221s to take the lead. That's the fastest lap of the day so far!
  • 04.04.15 - 12h05
